Hosted store

Translate a Shopify store

Shopify themes have one layout file that wraps every storefront page. Put the snippet there and your whole shop front reads in every language you turn on.

What you need

Where the snippet goes

  1. Copy your snippet

Open your site in the Verbafy dashboard and copy the embed snippet.

    Your page, before </body>
    <script
      src="https://cdn.verbafy.app/widget.js"
      data-site-id="site_abc123"
      data-api-key="pk_live_your_key"
    ></script>
  2. Open the theme code editor

From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, click the … menu on the theme you are using and choose Edit code.

  3. Paste it into theme.liquid

Under Layout, open theme.liquid. That file wraps every storefront page. Paste the snippet immediately before the closing </body> tag and click Save.

Worth knowing on Shopify

App content is translated too

Reviews, size charts, upsell blocks: anything an app renders into the page is text in the DOM like any other, picked up as it appears.

The Shopify-hosted checkout is not yours to script

Shopify renders checkout itself, outside your theme, so a theme snippet does not reach it. Everything up to the checkout is covered. Shopify translates checkout from your store's own language settings.

Duplicate the theme first if you want a safety net

Shopify keeps theme versions, and the change is one paste you can undo. Duplicating the live theme and editing the copy is still the calmer way to do it.
